Features of Universal Printer Driver 4.0 |
- Automatic Partial font embedding: Only the portions of fonts in use, not entire fonts, are automatically embedded into the print stream for purpose of drastically minimizing bandwidth utilization (by as much as 95 percent). As a result, users are no longer required to manually enable font embedding when needed.
- Pages are streamed independently, all pages belong to the same job. This ensures that the Print Jobs are printet together.
- Intelligent font embedding: the Universal Printer driver only embeds fonts that do not exist on the client or print server. This further reduces the size of the print stream and drastically minimizes bandwidth utilization.
- A client option to "show printer properties" enables the user to apply printer-specific options (proprietary features) such as stapling, watermarks, etc.
- Auto-created Client and Network Universal Printers fully inherit the properties of the native client and network-shared printers, respectively. Such properties include: paper trays, paper sizes, paper margins, color, duplexing, print quality, and more)
- Automatic support for International language fonts.
- Client Universal Printers may now be auto-created synchronously (before the published application launches) or asynchronously (the published application doesn´t wait for all the printers to finish auto-creating). Three options are made available to the administrator:
- Auto-create only the default printer synchronously (before the publish application launches)
- Auto-create all printers synchronously (before the publish application launches)
- Auto-create all printers asynchronously (the publish application does not wait for all the printers to finish auto-creating before it launches)
- Client Universal Printers are now created in a multithreaded fashion. As a result, sessions logging on simultaneously are each allocated an independent auto-creation thread.
- Support for pass-through sessions: Client Universal Printers are now autocreated in sessions launched from within existing sessions.
- Client-side bandwidth control is now available through the Universal Printer clients system tray icon. Users may vary the bandwidth of the print stream from 5 kbps up to the preset server-side bandwidth limit (configurable by the administrator).
- Network Universal Printers can be created on a (dedicated) print server other than the one where the parent printers already exist. In this case, the parent printers must already be shared on their respective print servers.
- No re-installation of the Universal Printer client is required upon upgrading the ICA client.
- Users may now complete a Universal Printer client update even though their sessions are still active. As a result, they are warned that a client reboot will be required unless they log off their sessions before proceeding with the upgrade.
- Network Universal Printers inherit the information in the Location and Comment fields from their parent printers.
- The Comment field of auto-created Client Universal Printers is populated with Domain\Username for easy sorting and identification.
- Optional auto-create client-side printer connections using UNC names (i.e., Printer on PrintServer vs. \\PrintServer\Printer).
