Please, refer to How to...Perform domain consolidation / migration" in the manual that can be downloaded by clicking the manual link above.
Performing the migration to Windows 2000 or 2003 The example below migrates several NT domains to a new Windows 2000 or 2003 domain. You can take this complete working example and adjust it to suit your own configuration.
- The network comprises three Windows NT type domains, which we'll call DOM_A , DOM_B and DOM_C. DOM_A approves domains DOM_B and DOM_C.
- A resource server is present in domain DOM_A and manages all the domain's shared directories.
- All three domains have client stations of different types: Windows NT 4.00 Workstation, Windows 2000 professional, and Windows 98.
- The goal is to migrate domains DOM_A , DOM_B and DOM_C to a new Windows 2000 or 2003 type domain working in mixed mode. The name of the Windows 2000 or 2003 domain is pointdev.com (POINTDEV).
- All computers, user groups, and users in domain DOM_A are to be migrated to the organization unit OU_DOM_A on the Windows 2000 or 2003 server.
- All computers, user groups, and users in domain DOM_B are to be migrated to the organization unit OU_DOM_B on the Windows 2000 or 2003 server.
- All computers, user groups, and users in domain DOM_C are to be migrated to the organization unit OU_DOM_C on the Windows 2000 or 2003 server.
- The resource server must be migrated to the new domain, and all security settings need to be modified to correspond to the newly migrated objects (computers, groups, users).
- The client stations have to have their domain changed automatically and users must keep their existing user profiles.
1st step: migrate domains DOM_A, DOM_B, DOM_C to Windows 2000 or Windows 2003:
This first step can be done in one go:
- Install and run IDEAL MIGRATION from any administration computer on your network (preferably a Windows 2000 machine). Important : You must have Domain administrator privileges on all managed servers.
- Add the software components for managing your source and destination servers. These servers are the domain controllers for DOM_A , DOM_B, and DOM_C, as well as the Windows 2000 or 2003 destination server. For more information, see How to add a plug-in software component?
- Save the MMC console so that all managed computers can be reloaded next time the program is run: use the menu Console, Save.
- Open the following software component: Ideal Migration on - it doesn't matter which source server ?
