A "Remote Connection License with ByteReplicator" allows PeerSync Server to send byte level changes from the source machine to the target machine without sending the entire file.
A "Remote Connection License with ByteReplicator" is required for each target machine receiving byte level changes. The PeerSync Server application is installed on the source machine A, and a small application, PSListener (required to support ByteReplicator options), is installed on the target machine B (C, D, etc). If a file on the source is changed, PeerSync sends just the changed segments of the file to the corresponding targets.
You can mix and match connection licenses. For example, you can have 3 standard "Remote Connection Licenses and 5 "Remote Connection Licenses with ByteReplicator ".
ByteReplicator is an option (for PeerSync Workstation, PeerSync Server and PeerSync HVS) that allows you to transfer just the changed data in a file when synchronizing, instead of the entire file.
Byte-Level Replication can be beneficial when trying to synchronize large files where only a small amount of data has changed, or when there is a slow connection between the source machine and target machine.
- Adjustable Block Segment Size:
This is a useful feature for data transfer. Larger segments require fewer CPU calculations with greater segment sizes sent across the network, while smaller segments mean more CPU calculations with reduced bandwidth requirements.
- Optional Data Compression:
ByteReplicator gives you the option of sending data compressed or uncompressed. In the event of a failed byte level transfer, ByteReplicator offers the option of retrying the failed transfers by using the selected PeerSync retry features, or the option of sending the entire file via PeerSync's standard file copy.
- The PSListener:
This supporting application is installed on the target machine and offers extensive options for performance enhancement and load balancing. These options can be configured via the PSListener Configuration Utility included in the PSListener installation.
- File Exclusions:
ByteReplicator can exclude specified file types and minimum file sizes from the byte level replication transfer. If a file type is excluded from byte level replication, the entire file will be replicated via PeerSync standard file copy.
- Status Reports:
A "Remarks" column has been added to the "Updated" tab on the PeerSync Status screen which displays additional information/statistics about files updated via ByteReplicator.
Limitations
ByteReplicator options are not available when using FTP, and can only be used to targets where PSListener is installed (PSListener runs on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003).
