Branch Office Syncronization with PeerSync

Problem: Provide mirroring and synchronization of files and folders between offices for purposes of high availability, collaboration, and backup.

Solution: PeerSync Server Setup in many to many Syncronization.

Synchronization of data between offices has become a necessary requirement for teams collaborating and utilizing data with other teams within an organization.

PeerSync has been designed to meet this demand by assuring reliable and fast synchronization. Integrity of file use between different sites can be maintained using PeerLock; ensuring that two users cannot modify the same file at the same time.

The following procedure can be used to set up a Bi-Directional Real Time Synchronization

Real-Time bi-directional synchronization of servers or workstations in which data modified on either machine is replicated in real-time to the other machine.

Preparation: The PeerSync installation should be installed on both servers involved in the bi-directional synchronization.

The following steps are performed on the first server, and then repeated on the second server.

  1. Start PeerSync Profiler.

  2. Click on the Job menu at the top and choose Add then select Job with Defaults.

  3. Change the drop-down list in the top left from Basic to Advanced.

  4. In the Folder Selection window, enter the local drive path that needs to be replicated in the Source Folder field. Enter the UNC path or mapped drive letter for the destination of the replicated data in the Target Folder field.

  5. In the File Options window, check the options Add-synchronize new files and Update-synchronize existing files. If you would like file and folder deletion events to be replicated to the second server, check the option Replicate-Delete unmatched files. If this is enabled, we recommend checking the Move deleted files to an alternate location option then clicking on the Move Options... button and selecting a folder or recycling bin to place the deleted files in, otherwise files will be permanently deleted from the system.

  6. In the Automation window, check the options Use real-time monitoring. Click on the Real-Time Options ... button and check the option Use enhanced real-time monitoring (File Level Change Detection). This will ensure real-time events are monitored and processed.

  7. In the File Options window, select Bi-directional (both directions). Choose Ok in the pop-up message box.

  8. Now click on the Global Settings link next to the Bi-directional (both directions) option and check Always create a super-set during bi-directional synchronization. Alternatively, in the Global Settings window you may click on the Global Bi-directional Options link and check the Always create a super-set during bi-directional synchronization option.

  9. In the Miscellaneous window, select Use intermediate file during copy.

  10. (Optional) In the StartUp/Services window, choose the desired startup method. In order to setup PeerSync to run unattended as a service, choose Install as an NT Service.

  11. Note: If running as a service, make sure the service is using a non-local system account, such as domain admin or any other account that has access to the replicated directories.

  12. Save the profile by going to the File menu and choosing Save or Save As.

  13. Run PeerSync by going to the Run/View Current Profile.

  14. Repeat Steps 1-12 on the second machine, but with the source and target paths reversed. You can also copy the .SNC file that was created when the profile was saved to the second machine and make modifications to that file. The .SNC file is stored in the PeerSync directory by default.
