Print Manager Plus Technical-FAQ

Issue:

There are several reasons Print Manager Plus may not detect all of your Printers. Please follow the below troubleshooting steps to handle this issue.

Solution:

1. Restart the Print Manager Plus service and refresh the Printers tab to see if it now detects your printers.
2. When using Remote Desktop, you may need to disable 'Printers' within Local Resources.
   • Close all existing Remote Desktop Connections.
   • Open the Remote Desktop connection and click 'Options' instead of connecting.
   • Go to the Local Resources tab and uncheck 'Printers'
   • Reconnect to the Print Manager Plus server.
   • Restart the Print Manager Plus service and refresh your Printers tab again.
3. The Print Manager Plus service may need more permissions to properly monitor your printers. This step must be applied to Domain Controllers. Set the Print Manager Plus service to login as a Domain user with Administrative rights to the print server, and read and write access to the database. This can be specified under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Print Manager Plus > Logon.
4. Ensure the printers you are monitoring are 'Local Queues' and are not installed as 'Network Printers'.
5. If you are using Microsoft Clustering, ensure you have two licenses, and have recieved a license key specifically for Cluster from Software Shelf.

Issue

This is a known Install Shield X error that is usually the result of a corrupt or incorrect installation of a previous application.

Solution

To solve this error please follow these steps:

1. Login to the Windows machine, as an account other than Administrator, but still has Administrative rights.
2. Locate the Print Manager Installation file.
3. Hold down shift, and right click on the exe.
4. Choose 'Run As' from the menu
5. Specify the 'Administrator' account and input the appropriate password.
6. Install as usual.
