Service Explorer Problems-and-Solutions

An administrator used Service Explorer to stop Messenger service on all of her desktops and servers and set the startup properties to Disabled immediately following Microsoft's warning of a critical vulnerability in the Messenger service. She then applied this same logic to service sets on all Windows machines to create a single uniform services profile.

An administrator had over 100 servers running Veritas Backup Exec services on them. These services were run using a single service account and were spread out at multiple sites. The administrator was able to see how old the password was on the service account, change the password and then en-masse update the new password in the properties of all the services across all of the servers in a single operation. They mentioned they could also use this for all of their SQL Server services.

An administrator was looking for a way to manage services and was comparing Service Explorer with Service Account Manager from Lieberman and Associates. They chose Service Explorer because it could perform the same functions, but also allowed them to manage Windows Task Scheduler tasks.
